University Name History: On April 25, 2005 King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, declared the establishment of the University, changing the name from "King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences" to "King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences".

Foundation: King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC-Riyadh) initially began as a provider of high quality health services, and gradually branched into a pioneering academic institute through the following:
- High quality postgraduate residency/fellowship training programs.
- Organization and management of local and international scientific conferences, and advanced training programs.
- With the successful conception of the College of Nursing and its birth in 2002, followed by the establishment of the College of Medicine in 2004.
- By the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) was established under the umbrella of the Ministry of Higher Education.
- KSAU-HS follows the rules and regulations of Higher Education Council and the University Council, which is chaired by the Minister of Higher Education.
- The University has two branches, one in Jeddah in the Western Region and one in Al Ahsa in the Eastern Region.

- The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz announced the establishment of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) April 25, 2005 corresponding to 16/3/1426 H.
- KSAU-HS follows the rules and regulations of Higher Education Council and the University Council, which is chaired by the Minister of Higher Education
- The College of Medicine has two models: a two year pre-professional program for high school graduates and a four year professional program for bachelor degree holders.
- The College of Medicine is a three phase curriculum that offers a problem-based learning approach. It also has a graduate entry program employing a curriculum developed by the University of Sydney, Australia.
- On September 11, 2004 the College of Medicine opened its doors to its first batch of thirty students and gradually increased to 100 with future plans to accommodate 200 students annually.
- The College of Medicine is integrated inside King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Riyadh with a 1000-bed tertiary-care hospital that serves as the primary teaching center for medical students in the clinical phase of the curriculum.
- The formation of the College of Nursing originally "College of Nursing and Allied Medical Sciences" (CNAMS) in March 2002, and the College of Medicine in December 2003 was the foundation that developed the KAMC Academy for Health Sciences into a University.
- The College of Nursing offers two bachelor degrees: One (Stream I) is designed for students who have finished high school and (Stream II), graduates who already have a degree, the first of its kind in the Kingdom.
- The newly established College of Public Health and Health Informatics was established in 2005 and is the first college in this specialty inside the Kingdom and within the Gulf Region.
- In collaboration with Liverpool University, the College offers three Masters Degrees in Health System and Quality Management, Master's degree in Epidemiology, and a Master's in Public Health.
- King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences offers high quality postgraduate residency/fellowship training programs.
- King Abdullah International Research Center officially started as a steering committee in November 1994 to provide an environment for clinical and health sciences research in coordination with the NGHA Hospitals. The Medical and Health Sciences Research Center (MHSRC) finally commenced in 2004.
