The importance of epidemiology is derived from the fact that it is a discipline that underpins the practice of health care at all levels. KSAU-HS offers this program according to international standards with a view to becoming recognized as the major institution in the advancement of epidemiology and biostatistics in Saudi Arabia. This program, the first in the region, aims to address the severe shortage of qualified individuals in the field of epidemiology and biostatistics in Saudi Arabia. Graduates will contribute to the development and application of epidemiology and biostatistics at hospitals, health centers and in the community, and solve problems that may otherwise hinder the advancement of these disciplines and their utilization.

The Master of Public Health In Epidemiology and Biostatistics Program runs full-time for two calendar years, with the introduction and the Mathematics useful for statistics refresher course, followed, as shown below, by the 13 taught modules and a research project module. After the refresher course, the following weeks of teaching are normally organized into four week blocks – including teaching, reading and assessment – with one module per block. Each module is assessed during the module. The taught modules will be followed by the research project. The program offers two tracks from which students can chose one: Hospital Epidemiology, and General Epidemiology.

The interdisciplinary nature of the program reflects the skills, knowledge and understanding required to practice at a senior level in public health consultancy. The graduates of the program will be qualified to work in policy-related, managerial or academic posts; as strategic as well as operational levels in a variety of settings, for examples local, regional and national government, health facilities and programs, international organizations, national and international NGOs and academic qualifications (e.g. PhD) where appropriate.
