The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is undergoing a development in many areas that are witnessed by all. The government, led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince had invested great attention into the health sector to provide the highest standards of health care to insure the health of the citizens. Proper health and welfare are the focus and goal that every official in this great nation is striving to achieve. The establishment of a scientific association under the name of the Saudi Scientific Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (SSBMT) will lead to the development of theoretical and applied knowledge and the provision of consultancy and applied scientific studies both general and specific in accordance with the provisions of the general rules governing the association.
It will also work on the development of scientific thought in the members’ area of specialization and to work on its developments. Also, it will seek to achieve scientific communication for the members, provide scientific consult in the area of specialization, and establishing general regulations for ethics and practice. At the same time it will be an umbrella for all those who work in the area of stem cell transplantation. The attention that the association is giving to the field of stem cell transplantation will help to conduct research and studies and all that areas of knowledge that relate to it.The association aims to develop scientific thought in the field of stem cell transplantation and to work on the development of this area. Also, it aims to achieve scientific communication between the members by refereeing to the association in all that relates to their area of specialty. It will also provide scientific consult and facilitate the exchange of scientific product between the association and the concerned bodies and institutions within and outside the Kingdom. It will seek to support programs and research for this specialization, the methods of treatment and their extent in the Kingdom. Moreover, it will encourage and support diagnostic programs and scientific methods that will help avoid the negative aspects and to implement all that is new and advanced.The scientific council agreed in its second meeting in the academic year 1427/1428 corresponding to 2006/2007 held on Rabi' Al Thani 20, 1428 corresponding to May 7, 2007 to establish the Saudi Scientific Association for the Cultivation of Stem Cells.
