King Abdulaziz Public Library

The King Abdulaziz Public Library was inaugurated on the 7th of Ramadan 1420H, corresponding to 15 December 1999 AD.  Part of the King Abdulaziz Historical Center, King Abdulaziz Public Library has three separate branches, a branch for men, another for women and a third that houses the children’s selections.  As a philanthropic institution, the library’s goals are to disseminate knowledge and culture in Saudi society, concentrating on the Arabic and Islamic heritage and the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The library contains a growing collection of approximately 564,000 volumes, periodicals, maps, photographs, children’s books and microfilm.  It also has a collection of rare coins and registry for the Center of Equestrian Studies. In addition to the normal library book lending, it organizes a number of symposia, lectures and evening shows in an effort to be interactive with its community.  This is furthered by exhibitions or book fairs, meetings and TV broadcastings. King Abdulaziz Public Library possesses an important archive of 5,564 rare photographs, single images and collections preserved in albums.

The children’s library is a fun place with computers where children can interact with stories, a wonderfully run theater to entertain and stimulate children’s imaginations, and of course the comfortable setting where children can learn to love books and reading. It is a great place where they can enrich their imagination with the great selection of books.  The library offers tours for schools in both Arabic and English.   Additionally, there is a Kids Book Club for children ages 5-12 and is focused on those children who might not otherwise be able to participate in library activities.  Membership is on a yearly basis.

The men’s and women’s branches offer a large range of services from lending books, providing research resources, or photocopying services  The library also offers free browsing of subscribed databases, which include: Saudi Lawyers Database and Encyclopedia of Saudi Statutes,  Ask Zad which is large collection of Arabic periodicals, Computer Source, and a database for information sources on computers.

The Library is located in Murabba district just off of King Faisal Street between Al Washim and Imam Faisal Bin Turky streets.  Located just past the Water Tower on Dhaheerah Street next to King Abdulaziz Auditorium, the library is within the King Abdulaziz Historical Center compound.
