The Cochlear Implant Program at King Abdulaziz Medical City in collaboration with the Postgraduate Training Center welcomes you to The Microsurgery of The Ear & Temporal Bone Dissection Course, held in the period from Dec 8-10, 2012 . This course provides comprehensive training on the principles of Middle Ear, Temporal Bone & Skull Base Surgery to otolaryngology residents & Otology fellows. Practicing otolaryngologists interested in refreshing their skills & updating on the latest will also find this course interesting & helpful. During the THREE days dissection course, each candidate will have ample time & supervision to drill temporal bones with specially selected lectures to enhance the learning process. 

Our temporal Bone laboratory has completely furnished micro dissection stations. Each station includes a full set of microsurgical instruments, operating binocular microscope, motorized drill & a suction irrigation system.

The organizing committee will spare no effort to ensure that you discover in details this unique & delicate human bone & to increase your expertise in practicing safe ear surgery.

Course Objectives:

The main objective of this course is to make front-line Otolaryngology practitioners aware of cutting edge dissection techniques in order to prevent poorly performed surgical & diagnostic procedures.
Toward the end of this comprehensive hands-on course, candidates should be able to outline practical approaches in diagnosing & treating chronic ear diseases & cholesteatoma, including selecting the most appropriate surgical approaches to manage those common conditions, understand the management of hearing loss with ossiculoplasty & be familiar with a variety of techniques for ossicular chain reconstruction, discuss the varieties of stapes surgery techniques & management options of revision stapes surgery, discuss in-office evaluation & management of the dizzy patients, & describe facial nerve problems & methods to avoid surgical trauma to the facial nerve.
