Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) 
Location: Postgraduate Training Center, KAMC-Riyadh 

The Postgraduate Training Center will conduct the Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) on the 15th of October 2009 and 19th of November 2009 at the Postgraduate Training Center

BLSO is meant to complement ALSO. Those who take BLSO and decide they want more advance training can then take ALSO course to expand their skills and knowledge. BLSO draws on the strength of ALSO, teaching its evidence based material through hands-on workshops, mnemonics and case-based discussions.

BLSO may be appropriate than ALSO for some skilled birth attendant (SBAs). BLSO can be used as a tool to teach basic life saving skills to community nurses, nursing assistants & others.

Target Audience Obstetric Nurses, Midwives, Registered Nurses, Paramedics, Medical Students and other allied health care professionals practicing in many different settings.  
                                        

Objectives:

  • Discuss ways of improving the management of obstetrical urgencies and emergencies, which may help standardize the skills of practicing maternity care providers.
  • Helps allied health care providers to develop and maintain the knowledge and skills they need to effectively manage potential emergencies during the perinatal period.
  • Serve as an aid for training medical/ nursing students in obstetrics as well as those trainees in Family Medicine.
