World No Tobacco Day
27 May 2012
The Scientific Saudi Association of Public Health in collaboration with King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences and National Guard Health Affairs (NGHA) will celebrate "World No Tobacco Day" on Wednesday, 30 May 2012 at the College of Public Health and Health Informatics (CPHHI) to commemorate the day.

The global tobacco epidemic kills nearly 6 million people each year, of which more than six hundred thousand people are exposed to second-hand smoke.  It is also estimated that the local smokers have reached up to 22% of the population, which put the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the 6th place regarding tobacco use. Unless we act, it will eradicate to up to 8 million people by 2030. As such, the World Health Organization set the World No Tobacco Day to highlight the health hazards of tobacco and to advocate for effective policies that can reduce its consumption.

Various activities will be conducted in relation to tobacco dependence, its consequences and preventive and control measures.
