Program Overview

Echocardiography-Cardiovascular Technology (ECAV) program at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS), offered under the College of Applied Medical Sciences, has been available since the 2018/2019 academic year. This program is exclusively available to female students on the Jeddah campus and follows a structured single-track study plan. The program spans a total of five years, which includes two preparatory years, two specialized years focused on echocardiography, and a final year dedicated to a clinical internship. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to be licensed as technologists specializing in echocardiography, equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to contribute to the field of cardiovascular diagnostics.

Admission Criteria

Admission to King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences is competitive and based on the General Secondary School Certificate score (30%), Qiyas​ Aptitude Test (30%), and Achievement Test (40%), in accordance with the university’s approved regulations.

Program Educational Objectives

- Prepare graduates to become competent Cardiovascular Technologists.
- Prepare graduates with research skills who can conduct health-related research projects by providing the optimal theoretical and practical platforms.

Knowledge and Understanding
K1. Outline the principles of anatomy, physiology, pathology, physics, electrophysiology, and
pharmacology that are relevant to cardiovascular sciences.
K2.  Recognize advance knowledge related to cardiovascular imaging, techniques and
applications.
K3.  Describe  advance knowledge related to cardiovascular sciences, treatment and management.

Skills
S1.  Distinguish the distinctive characteristics of  normal and abnormal  ECG analysis,
anatomical and sonographic features of the cardiac structures.
S2.  Perform cardiovascular procedures for both adult and pediatric individuals in different
cardiac situations.
S3.  Perform appropriate analysis, optimal cardiac images, and standard measurements in
clinical practice.
S4.  Explain and conduct scientific research, community, and inter-professional activities
related to the ECAV program.
S5. Show effective communication skills and standard protocol in the field.
