Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics
About the Department
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the College of Public Health and Health Informatics believes in the importance of improving healthcare throughout the Kingdom. The CPHHI, recognizing the importance of epidemiology as the discipline that underpins the practice of health care at all levels, is offering a M.P.H (Epidemiology) to international standards with a view to becoming recognized as the major institution in the advancement of epidemiology in Saudi Arabia. The Master’s degree, the first in the region, aims to address the severe shortage of qualified capacity in the field of epidemiology in Saudi Arabia. Graduates will contribute to the development and application of epidemiology and biostatistics at hospitals, health centers and in the community, and solve problems that may otherwise hinder the advancement of these disciplines and their utilization
Message from the Chair
For over 7 years now, College of Public Health and Health Informatics has built a unique position in the provision of academic programs in the public health and research fields. One of the primary roles of the department is to foster excellence in teaching, learning, scholarship and research. It is a role that we take very seriously here at CPHHI, and one that determines the nature of the oversight given to the programs and academic activities. Epidemiology has quite a special position in the terms of public health sector. With its distinctive culture, it delivers a clear student-centered environment in which to explore existing knowledge in epidemiology, and gain new learning at the leading edge of public health development, based upon a fundamental use of a work-applied management learning approach. The department provides the opportunity to reflect on personal experience, and to analyze that individual experience against the experience of others written into the scholarly knowledge base of literature, as well as the practices seen in research case studies. Epidemiology & Biostatistics are a department committed to the promotion of further understanding of what research leadership is, and what the sustainable development of the community health enterprise means, as well as pursuing the development of the skills to practice effective performance in these fields. Its individualized attention, and small group workshop mode, are offering just the right environment for busy practitioners to share their insights, ask questions and consolidate their reading. The department is dedicated to addressing the overall quality of the programs offered on an on-going basis, so that you can be assured that you are receiving qualifications of the highest standard to lead you and your career into the future. To embark on a journey of success one needs the tools of preparedness, foresight and strategy. These lead to the path of growth and high quality of students. It is vital to combine these three forces in achieving that ultimate goal, where every drop of knowledge and every capsule of hard work acts like a pivot tilting the pan balance of life in favor of promoting community health in the sense of research.
We look forward to helping you accomplish your goals.
Sincerely,
