Dr. Ashraf El-Metwally

Associate Professor of Epidemiology
Dr Ashraf El-Metwally is a medical doctor with a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (University of Tampere, Finland). He joined the College of Public health and Health Informatics in August 2011 as an assistant professor at the department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, while holding an honorary lecturer position at the department of Public Health- University of Aberdeen in the UK.

Dr. Ashraf has worked as an epidemiologist at the Rheumatism Foundation Hospital in Finland (2003-2005); lecturer in epidemiology at the University of Aberdeen, UK (2006-2008) and as a lecturer and course coordinator of health education at Sharjah Higher colleges (2009-20011). Dr. El-Metwally research interests are in the epidemiology of pain, musculoskeletal disorders and rheumatic diseases, with 15 published research papers and reports in international peer-reviewed journals. His international awards include the Young Investigator Award from the British Society of Rheumatology (2006), First Prize for The Best Submitted Paper and Presentation from the British Pain Society (2007).

Dr El-metwally is a member of the editorial board and review committees of several international medical journals and was included in “Marquis Who’s Who in the world 2009” book of influential persons in their fields.
