Program Overview

The aim of this program is to address the gro​wing need for qualified medical educators in Saudi Arabia. Graduates will be equipped to enhance educational practices in healthcare institutions and contribute to the development of effective teaching methods. the Department of Medical Education utilizes top experts from leading medical education institutions worldwide, having worked originally with materials from Maastricht University. The founding MME Director hailed from the first such Masters, in Chicago at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (MHPE, 1980), the model for the Maastricht MHPE (1990). Both UIC and Maastricht have worldwide recognition for their rich research programs in health professions education and unique expertise in the areas of curriculum, evaluation, assessment, leadership, design and implementation of problem based learning – all professionally relevant skills nurtured through systematic training and the use of innovative methods for student learning. Inspired by these forerunners, the KSAU-HS MME aspires to the same levels of excellence in the same broad array of areas relevant to educational leadership.​ 


Program Description:​

The MME program offers specialized education and leadership training for medical educators across various fields, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and health ministry. It prepares graduates for educational leadership roles by deepening their understanding of educational theory, teaching methods, and program design. The program spans two academic years with a block-based structure, totaling 42 credit hours in line with King Saud bin Abdulaziz University regulations.​

Students from the university's campuses in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Alahsa engage in a unified learning experience, with classes held on campus and equipped with modern technology. Faculty mainly based in Riyadh lead the program, supported by colleagues from other campuses to maintain academic standards.​

The curriculum consists of eight blocks focusing on different aspects of medical education, with the final two blocks dedicated to research and a significant master’s project. Assessment methods are varied, including assignments, presentations, and exams, tailored to reflect each block's learning outcomes.

Graduates with background in health-related fields such as Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy. ​


Duration​

The Master Degree in Medical Education (MME) Program runs full-time for two calendar years.​
