Prof. Maha Abdullah AL Muneef




Prof. Maha AL Muneef, graduated from Yale University with a post-doctoral degree in pediatric infectious diseases and epidemiology, 1999.  She is a well-recognized; nationally and internationally, for her advocacy for women and child’s rights.  She is a pioneer in the field of child maltreatment and domestic violence in Saudi Arabia. She was the Executive director and the founder of the National Family Safety Program to combat domestic violence through awareness, advocacy, capacity building, and service provision for victims of abuse (2006-2018). She was elected to Chair the National Committee and National Registry on Domestic Violence and Child Abuse in the Saudi Health Council and served as Consultant in Al Shoura Council  (2009-2014). She served as elected President of the Arab Professional Society for Prevention of Violence against Children (Arab-SPCAN), 2012-2016, and currently serve as board member of the international society for prevention of child abuse and neglect (ISPCAN). 
Prof Al Muneef is an active pediatric researcher with more than 65 cited scientific publications concerning pediatric infectious disease, infection prevention and control, public health, child maltreatment, and domestic violence. 

She is currently:  

 Chair of child abuse and neglect committee and team leader of Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) team in king Abdullah Specialized children Hospital (KASCH).

 Division head of Child Care Section , pediatric department , king Abdullah Specialized children Hospital (KASCH).

 Founder and Board Member of the Child Care Association, a charitable society advocating for early childhood development & child rights

 Member of the National Committee for Women, Children and Adolescent in the Saudi center for disease control (SCDC) 

 Councilor and board member  in International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN)

 Past president and Secretary of the Arab Professional Society for Prevention​ of Violence Against Children (Arab-SPCAN)

 Representative for the World Health Organization (WHO) on Multiple Studies and researches on Injury and violence Preventions




Major Honors/ Awards:


 Received the international “Woman of Courage Award 2014” from the Secretary of State, United States of America for the Middle East Region. 

 Prince Naif award for “women in excellence” -2017 in the field of social security.

 Ranked by Forbes Magazine in as one of Five Women who will change the world in the field of public policy, 2012

 “Greatest women award” in the Middle East, 2012,   (award for achievement in medicine and health care category). Petrochem and Indian Television Academy, 2012.

 “Leaders in Medicine Award”, awarded by the students of King Saud University for the Health Sciences for lifetime achievements in medicine, 2012.
